Job Summary:

The NICU/PICU/PEDS Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring patient care quality, and managing staff within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and Pediatrics. This role includes hiring, scheduling, budgeting, policy development, and compliance enforcement, while fostering a supportive environment for critically ill pediatric patients and their families. The Nurse Manager collaborates closely with neonatologists, pediatric specialists, and other healthcare staff, maintaining 24/7 accountability.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily operations and patient care quality in NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics units.
  • Manage hiring, scheduling, budgeting, and policy development.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and institutional policies.
  • Foster a positive and supportive environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatric specialists, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Review applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and consult with Labor Relations to develop management proposals.
  • Participate in collective bargaining negotiations, caucus discussions, and working meetings.
  • Document, recommend, and implement disciplinary actions in coordination with Labor Relations and labor counsel.
  • Direct and enforce management policies and practices consistent with system rules and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Utilize independent judgment to address operational staffing issues including hiring, transferring, suspending, laying off, recalling, promoting, discharging, assigning, directing, or disciplining employees.
  • Access and navigate institutional records systems to support management functions.
  • Contribute to systemic development and success of the healthcare system.
  • Work with Labor Relations to interpret and apply past practices as needed.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Current Registered Professional Nurse license in the State of Illinois.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school.
  • Minimum five (5) years nursing experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
  • At least two (2) years of nursing supervision experience or charge nurse experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Neonatal Pulmonary Resuscitation (NRP) card or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Bilingual language skills.
Special Considerations:
  • 24/7 accountability for unit operations and patient care.
  • Involvement in collective bargaining and labor relations activities.
  • Disciplinary authority in accordance with system policies and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Work environment includes Neonatal, Pediatric, and Pediatric Intensive Care Units.
Scheduling:
  • Standard shifts Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • Weekend work required as needed, not exceeding one weekend shift per month.
