ABOUT US
The National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions is a nonprofit network of regional, employer-led healthcare coalitions representing thousands of employers and tens of millions of Americans. Our mission is to advance high-value, equitable healthcare for purchasers, patients, and communities. We do this by equipping our member coalitions—and through them, the employers they serve—with the programs, data tools, and collaborative frameworks needed to drive meaningful change in the healthcare marketplace.
From employer claims data collaboratives and fiduciary tools to research focus groups and payment reform initiatives, the National Alliance is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our coalition network and the employers they represent. We are a mission-driven, relationship-first organization that values strategic thinking, genuine collaboration, and results that matter.
ABOUT YOU
The Marketing and Communications Manager is a strong writer and hands-on marketer who can turn complex healthcare data into clear, compelling messages for very different audiences, including employer purchasers, coalition leaders, sponsors, partners, and the media. You bring solid marketing and digital marketing skills, and you rely on performance data, not guesswork, to decide what to do next.
National Alliance is a small, mission-driven team where everyone wears multiple hats. You are a self-starter with a “figure it out” attitude: when you encounter a concept you don't yet understand, whether it's a claims-data methodology, a payment model, or a new platform, you dig in, do the research, and come back ready to explain it to others. You take ownership of your work, bring ideas forward, and are comfortable moving between strategic priorities and hands-on execution in an environment where priorities evolve.
Core Responsibilities will include:
Content Development & Data Storytelling
- Write, edit, and proofread clear, compelling content for email campaigns, newsletters, websites, social media, press releases, event promotions, presentations, and other communications.
- Distill complex healthcare data, research, and policy topics (such as employer claims data, cost and quality findings, and payment reform) into accurate, plain-language messaging, infographics, and data-driven stories tailored to coalitions, employers, sponsors, partners, and the media.
- Translate National Alliance's programs, priorities, and member value into audience-focused messaging for member coalitions, prospects, sponsors, external partners, and other stakeholders.
- Independently research unfamiliar topics and partner with staff and subject-matter experts to ensure content is accurate, well sourced, and easy to understand.
- Coordinate the production and distribution of regular communications and publications, including newsletters, the annual report, and sponsored publications such as Action Briefs, infographics, and white papers, to name a few.
- Maintain a consistent editorial voice and adherence to style guidelines across all public-facing materials, ensuring communications are accurate, timely, and aligned with National Alliance's brand.
Digital Marketing & Website Management
- Build and execute email campaigns, including audience segmentation, scheduling, quality assurance, and performance reporting.
- Develop and manage National Alliance's social media content calendar and day-to-day presence across relevant platforms.
- Create, update, and proofread content on the National Alliance website and Coalition Connect member portal (WordPress) to ensure information is current, engaging, and easy to navigate.
- Create and manage a dissemination process that supports widespread distribution, customization, and use of National Alliance resources by member coalitions, working closely with coalitions to understand their needs and preferences.
Data, Analytics, & Performance Measurement
- Define KPIs and success measures for marketing campaigns, communications channels, and programs, and set up the tracking needed to measure them.
- Track, analyze, and report on performance across email, website, social media, publications, and campaigns; share clear, regular reporting with leadership and program staff.
- Use data to make and recommend decisions about audiences, channels, messaging, timing, and resource allocation, testing and refining approaches over time.
- Conduct market and audience research, including member feedback such as surveys, to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement in marketing and communications efforts.
Campaigns, Programs, & Events
- Support integrated marketing campaigns for membership recruitment and retention, education programs, events, sponsorships, publications, and other revenue-generating offerings, each with defined goals and metrics.
- Research and develop content in support of National Alliance programs, products, and services; develop promotional materials and coordinate campaign schedules, deliverables, approvals, and deadlines across departments.
- Support marketing and communications for National Alliance's annual national meetings, webinars, awards programs, and other events, including invitations and promotions, social media, registration site content, calls for speakers, script development, and occasional onsite assistance.
- Collaborate with staff, committees, subject-matter experts, and external partners to gather information and develop relevant content.
Brand, Media, & Production Support
- Help manage and maintain National Alliance's brand and identity, ensuring consistency across digital and print communications.
- Create or coordinate the development of basic graphics, presentations, marketing collateral, and event materials using established templates, brand guidelines, and tools such as Canva.
- Coordinate with external PR and communications consultants, designers, printers, and other vendors to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Maintain organized files, content archives, marketing and PR calendars, templates, and other departmental resources, and share weekly communications updates on the staff call.
Responsibilities may evolve based on business needs.
Qualifications, Skills, & Experience will include:
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations, preferably within a nonprofit, association, or healthcare-related organization.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and channels. Applicants will be asked to submit a portfolio of work samples and complete a writing skills test.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex, technical, or data-heavy information into clear, accurate content for non-expert audiences.
- Experience developing and executing digital marketing, including email campaigns, social media content, and website updates.
- Hands-on experience setting KPIs, tracking performance, and using analytics to evaluate results and guide marketing and communications decisions.
- Working knowledge of email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact, Mailchimp), content management systems (WordPress), social media tools, and web and social analytics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), project management tools, and basic graphic design tools such as Canva; Adobe Creative Cloud experience is a plus.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with staff, volunteer leaders, members, vendors, and external partners.
- High degree of accuracy, initiative, sound judgment, and follow-through.
- Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment and travel occasionally for events and meetings.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with or within employer coalitions, health plans, benefits consultants, or healthcare related organizations.
- Familiarity with employer-sponsored healthcare programs, claims data, or healthcare purchasing strategies.
- Experience creating data visualizations, infographics, or dashboards.
- Experience working with a national network of affiliate or regional organizations.
- Experience in a small or lean organization where team members take on a wide range of responsibilities.
Attributes We Value
- Self-starting & resourceful: You have a “figure it out” attitude. You take initiative, find answers on your own, and follow through with accountability.
- Curious: When you don't understand a concept, you research it until you do, and you can then explain it simply to someone else.
- Data-driven: You set clear goals, track the numbers, and use metrics to make decisions, measure impact, and tell a story about what's working.
- Mission-driven: You believe that purchaser-led healthcare reform matters, and you bring that conviction to your work.
- Organized & detail-oriented: You manage competing priorities with precision in a fast-paced, lean-staff environment.
- Adaptable: You are energized rather than overwhelmed by a small team where everyone wears multiple hats and priorities shift.
- Collaborative by nature: You communicate proactively, partner across teams, and thrive in a shared-goals environment.
