Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Geologist to support a diverse portfolio of municipal infrastructure, land development, and DSA-regulated projects throughout Southern California.

The ideal candidate will have experience in engineering geology and geotechnical consulting , with a strong background in land development, grading, site characterization, and geologic hazard evaluation . Experience with environmental services, including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments , is a plus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and lead engineering geology and geotechnical investigations.
  • Conduct geologic mapping, subsurface interpretation, and geologic hazard assessments.
  • Evaluate seismic hazards, including fault rupture, ground shaking, liquefaction, slope stability, and landslide risks.
  • Prepare engineering geology and geotechnical reports, fault investigation reports, grading recommendations, and foundation recommendations.
  • Develop subsurface models using boring logs, CPT data, laboratory results, and field observations.
  • Provide geologic input for foundation design, retaining structures, earthwork, grading, and site development.
  • Plan and oversee field exploration activities, including drilling, logging, and sampling.
  • Perform geologic logging and soil classification in accordance with ASTM/USCS standards.
  • Coordinate with drilling contractors, laboratories, survey teams, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Perform construction observations, including excavation, subgrade, grading, and geologic hazard mitigation activities.
  • Prepare and support DSA submittals and respond to plan-check comments.
  • Coordinate with public agencies, municipalities, school districts, design teams, and structural engineers.
  • Ensure projects comply with the California Building Code, local grading ordinances, and applicable California geologic hazard regulations.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget for small-to-mid-sized projects.
  • Mentor junior geologists and review technical work.
  • Assist with proposals, business development, and client relationship management.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or a related field ; Master's degree preferred..
  • 4 10 years of experience in geotechnical or engineering geology consulting.
  • Experience with land development, grading, and site characterization.
  • Strong knowledge of Southern California geology .
  • Experience evaluating seismic and geologic hazards.
  • Knowledge of California regulatory requirements, including:
    • Alquist-Priolo Earthquake Fault Zoning Act
    • Seismic Hazards Mapping Act
    • California Building Code (CBC)
    • Local grading requirements
  • Experience with geologic logging, subsurface interpretation, and technical report preparation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, engineers, and public agencies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with DSA (Division of the State Architect) projects .
  • Experience working on municipal or public works projects.
  • Experience with K-12 schools, community colleges, or other public-sector facilities.
  • Experience with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments or environmental consulting.
  • Experience with Alquist-Priolo fault investigations.
  • Project management and client relationship experience.
